Inverclyde CHCP are providing a number of suicide prevention workshops throughout 2014 and 2015.
This training is provided FREE to statutory and voluntary organisation and to bona fide community groups and individuals.
1. safeTALK Workshop
This workshop trains people to be suicide alert, so more people with thoughts of suicide are able to be connected to the intervention help they need. safeTALK is a carefully crafted set of steps to help participants:
• Understand suicide is often missed, dismissed and avoided
• Examine the misleading ideas stopping us reaching out to help people with thoughts of suicide
• Learn the Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep safe steps to notice when someone is at risk of suicide.
Workshops will run on –
Wednesday 28th May (1.30pm to 4.30pm)
Monday 25th August (9.30am – 12.30pm)
The venue is the Resource Library, Crown House, 30 King Street, Greenock.
2. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
ASIST aims to enable helpers (anyone in a position of trust) to become more willing, ready and able to recognise and intervene effectively to help persons at risk of suicide. The 2-day workshop (attendance on both days is compulsory) is one of the key components of the local and national suicide prevention/mental health improvement strategies and is one of the leading programmes of suicide 'first aid' skills training in the world. ASIST is an interactive program including teaching, discussion, videos & skills practice.
The next workshops will run on –
12th & 13th June 2014
30th & 31st October 2014
26th & 27th February 2015
The venue is the Training Room (1st floor), Education Centre, Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
For additional information, there will be some planned dates for ASIST Tune-Ups (refresher training) and these will be announced in the next week or so. ASIST Tune-Up is designed for people who have completed the 2-day ASIST training more than 18 months ago and would like to update their skills..
