OPOF get set to spread some kindness

Random Act of Kindness Day on Monday 17 February is being transformed into a week of activities by Our Place Our Future (OPOF) Greenock East and Central, to celebrate and encourage kindness amongst the local community.

The OPOF team will be visiting venues in the area from Monday 17 to Friday 21 February, calling on people to join them and make a pledge of kindness to their Greenock East and Central community. The drop-in days are part of their drive to help bring people together, in a bid to alleviate loneliness, strengthen communities and impact on all aspects of poverty.

"No matter how big or small, people's pledges will make a difference," said OPOF Community Builder, Patricia Compston.

"People might want to pledge their support for a neighbour, get to know those living beside them a little better, help keep their neighbourhood clean, or donate food and clothing. For those with some spare time, they may want to consider supporting a local charity or community group, or even start up their own group if they see a gap for an activity that would benefit the area."

OPOF Community Builder, Nicole Bradley, said: "Since our OPOF team came together last September, we've been out and about meeting residents face to face. We see people who are willing to be at the heart of positive, lasting changes across their Greenock East and Central neighbourhoods and we're here to help ensure that their skills, interests and passions are used to help their community flourish."

Patricia and Nicole will be joined over the five days of drop-in events by colleagues OPOF Volunteering Officer, Rebecca Crossan, OPOF Programme Manager, Bill Clements, and PR/Marketing Officer, Elaine Nicol. During the week, the team can be found at:

The OPOF team - Nicole, Rebecca, Bill and Patricia, with CVS Inverclyde Chief Executive Officer, Charlene Elliott (centre).

Groups are one of the essential building blocks to help bind neighbours together in their community. As Community Builders on the OPOF team, Nicole and Patricia are connecting people and helping develop new groups that bring people together and inspire others to become involved in new and existing services. Rebecca's focus as Volunteering Officer is on improving volunteering opportunities in the area, recruiting people who can run groups and supporting others through the process. As well as engaging directly with organisations and community centres, Rebecca is using the online Volunteer Inverclyde platform to promote opportunities to local residents.
