Salt assault

The team at CVS Inverclyde are thinking 'heart' but not with romantic connotations in mind. Instead, they are learning more about how to keep their hearts fit and healthy. An information session on heart health was part of their work to advance from bronze to silver accreditation with the NHS Scotland Healthy Working Lives (HWL) award programme.

Turning to charity, Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS), the team are now using their free, essential guides to read more about a wide variety of heart health subjects over the coming months.

With topics ranging from alcohol to stopping smoking and from cholesterol to physical activity, they kicked off with 'salt', delving into why too much is bad for you. The CHSS guide outlines ways people can reduce salt intake to no more than the recommended daily amount of one level teaspoon, while highlighting the facts and dispelling some myths.

The HWL initiative supports employers and employees in their development of health promotion and safety themes in the workplace, in a practical way that is beneficial to everyone.
