NLHF grants helping you make a splash

Did you know that in 2020, Scotland is celebrating its Coasts and Waters with a year-long programme of events and activities? These will shine a spotlight on the country's coastlines and inland waterways whatever their shape or size, whether they're choppy or still, freshwater or tidal, rural or urban.

In all their forms, our coasts and waters are not only areas of natural beauty, they are host to an amazing array of riches and cherished by the communities that have grown up close to their banks and shores.

To mark The Year of Coast & Waters 2020, The National Lottery Heritage Fund is keen to fund projects that explore this rich natural heritage. Our seas, lochs, rivers and canals have shaped our history from fishing and textiles to whisky and wave power. They have influenced our culture, our stories, our way of life and they provide a home to our native plants and marine wildlife – especially here in Inverclyde.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is offering grants starting from £3,000 to groups who want to explore, celebrate or conserve this wealth of natural heritage.

Caroline Clark, Director Scotland, explains: "Heritage means different things to different people, so our funding is open to all types of community groups, you don't need to be a heritage organisation to apply. We're excited to hear people's ideas for projects and the possibilities are endless, from creating riverbank trails, collecting memories of industries once important to a community, tackling invasive species so natural species can thrive, exploring coastal habitats, building boats using traditional skills, to hosting a water-themed festival to celebrate the heritage of a town. This is an incredible opportunity to cherish what is important to a community."

National Lottery Grants for Heritage is an open programme for grants starting at £3,000. If you have not applied to The National Lottery Heritage Fund before, they can provide additional support and guidance as you are developing your ideas, as well as guidance on the application process.
