As we take the opportunity to say a massive 'thank you' to all our Inverclyde volunteers throughout Volunteers' Week - 1 to 7 June 2020 - CVS Inverclyde Volunteer Development Officer, Catriona MacLeod, provides us with her reflections on the efforts of volunteers over the past few months:
"Over the period of COVID-19, we have seen our community coming together and volunteering grow tremendously. Our Volunteer Inverclyde webpage alone has had an additional 350 people registering to volunteer, with a further 250 people expressing an interest via the Scottish Government "Ready Scotland" campaign.
"Organisations across Inverclyde have also seen a sharp rise in volunteer recruitment, particularly those providing essential services during COVID-19. There has also been a rise in informal volunteering with people either setting up small locality groups or neighbours helping neighbours. Overall, we think that there has been upwards of 600 volunteers helping throughout Inverclyde over this period.
"As we celebrate Volunteers' Week 2020 from 1 to 7 June, CVS Inverclyde would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to COVID-19 volunteers for their support, which has allowed organisations to continue to provide essential provisions. We also want to thank all our existing volunteers for their continued dedication to volunteering and for supporting our local organisations. Thanks also to our informal volunteers - people helping within their own communities, supporting their neighbours and establishing new community values.
"That is why our slogan for Volunteers' Week is, quite simply, 'Inverclyde Cares'."
CVS Inverclyde would like to add our own huge thanks to Catriona and all our Volunteer Inverclyde team for working so diligently to manage, train and ensure all the necessary accreditations are in place to safeguard our wonderful volunteers!
