CVS Inverclyde's Lead Community Link Worker, Valerie Campbell, is celebrating after being shortlisted for the Social Prescribing Manager of the Year Award from the National Association of Link Workers.
Hosted by CVS Inverclyde, Valerie and the team of seven Community Link Workers (CLW) work within all of the GP practices in Inverclyde to support people with non-medical or social issues by helping them to access services that can improve their health and wellbeing.
Since the Inverclyde CLW programme was established in December 2017, the team have supported over 2,500 patients with issues such as finance, mental health, housing, access to carers and employment amongst many other services.
The winner will be announced at the annual UK Social Prescribing Link Worker conference on 8 October 2020, which will be held virtually and is also Link Worker day.
Speaking of her nomination, Valerie said:
"I'm delighted and flattered to have been nominated for this award and look forward to the event.
"The team and I are continuing to work closely with the local communities to support and promote wellbeing, and we see some fantastic improvements.
"It will be fascinating to spend time and learn more about other programmes across the UK that can potentially further support our work here in Inverclyde."
The Link Worker day has been created to help celebrate the impact of Social Prescribing Link Workers and recognise all of those who have made contributions to powering up community wellbeing.
The event will be attended by Social Prescribing Link Workers, Social Prescribing programmes, Community, Health and Social Care industry leaders, Primary Care Networks, Clinical Directors and Line Managers from across sectors in the United Kingdom.
Reflecting on Valerie's nomination, Charlene Elliott, Chief Executive of CVS Inverclyde, said:
"We are delighted to see Valerie being recognised and nominated for this award which is excellent recognition of both hers and the wider team's community work locally.
"Valerie continues to make a fantastic and important difference through her dedication and commitment, and we wish her every success at the conference."
