Inverclyde Council has received money from the Scottish Government's pandemic food fund and will use £60,000 from this towards the creation of a pantry which will be delivered by Inverclyde Community Development Trust.
A food pantry is essentially a shop which is community owned and operated in order to provide access to low and no-cost food.
It is usually run on a co-operative and mutual aid model, so that all members of a community can access it without restriction and has an additional focus on reducing the environmental impact of food waste.
CVSI is keen for all of the third sector organisations locally to be involved with the project and input ideas into its creation.
All members of the community can contribute and can benefit and removes some of the stigma that could come with people accessing free or reduced food from the food pantry.
Following the initial CVSI webinar in July, this follow-up event is open to all third sector organisations and relevant partners in Inverclyde. The webinar will take place on Tuesday 29th September at 1pm and will close at 2.30pm.
