Volunteers’ Week 2025 takes place from 2 June – 8 June and is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible work of the volunteers.

This week we will be highlighting just some of the volunteers within Inverclyde.

If you would like to share your volunteering story, please contact sabrina.sigler@cvsinverclyde.org.uk.

Anna Kane volunteers as an event first aider with St. Andrews First Aid. She attends events across the country, providing first aid cover wherever needed.

What is your volunteer role?

I’m a volunteer event first aider with St Andrew’s First Aid as well as a Company Commandant, Duty Officer, Peer Supporter, and Community Facilitator. These roles involve leading our local volunteer section, taking on a management role at major national events, supporting other volunteers through difficult experiences, and teaching first aid skills to the public. I’ve been part of St Andrew’s for 10 years, ever since I joined as a 15-year-old cadet when a friend asked me to come along for company – I’ve never looked back. I quickly caught the bug, realised how much I enjoyed it, and discovered I was good at it too. Helping others has always been a passion of mine, and St Andrew’s gives me the perfect opportunity to do just that.

What have you gained from volunteering?

I get so much out of volunteering but the biggest reasons I continue are connection, community, and achievement. I’ve made incredible friends—many of whom I know will be in my life forever. I feel deeply connected to my local community and privileged to give back through volunteering. I’ve accomplished things I never thought possible. From managing some of Scotland’s highest-risk events, to representing St Andrew’s at the Royal Albert Hall on Remembrance Day, and so much more.
