This week we are sharing reflections from some of CVS Inverclyde’s volunteers. Volunteers support a range of projects while learning new skills. Kara Brain volunteers with CVS Inverclyde each week, contributing to exciting projects.

I volunteer with CVS Inverclyde due to my interest in business administration work that I first developed in school. Throughout my time volunteering with CVS, I have worked on lots of different administration-related tasks. Volunteering has also opened up a lot more opportunities for me than I expected.

Before I started volunteering, I didn’t know what to expect but it really helped me to gain more confidence and made me feel part of a team. I have also added to my admin skills and learned more about the local community and the many third sector organisations. I now have experience working in an office which will help me in the future with my career ambitions and with the content in my CV.

One of the exciting admin tasks I have worked on in my time volunteering included helping to create an online presentation resource for the Best Start in Life Network. I also have had the opportunity to go to the Scottish Parliament to the Cross-Party Group on volunteering. I enjoyed hearing about what is happening within volunteering across Scotland and learning about other people’s views and experiences in volunteering..

I would recommend others to become a volunteer as it could open a lot more opportunities for you. In my experience it certainly helps you to learn about things you maybe didn’t know before. Going forward, I would like to continue volunteering with CVS Inverclyde and developing in this administration area as it is something I have always enjoyed doing.
