Volunteers’ Week 2026: What is it and why do we celebrate?
Volunteers’ Week is an annual campaign held annually in the first week of June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. This UK-wide celebration launched in 1984, and provides organisations with an opportunity to say thank you to the people who give their time and skills to support others.
Volunteers’ Week is always an exciting time of year, with organisations celebrating those that help make all their good work happen.
Here in Inverclyde, volunteers play a vital role in supporting local groups, activities and services every day. We know that other areas across the UK experience a similar contribution from volunteers in their own local communities. In fact, statistics for recent years show that 14.2 million people have formally volunteered at least once a month in the UK. ¹ While another 25 million people in the UK volunteered informally at least once in a year.¹
These are great figures, demonstrating the vast reach of volunteering and just how many people want to help their communities. However, stats and figures don’t show the whole picture, and just one or two hours of volunteering can make a huge difference!
At CVS Inverclyde, we’re looking forward to spending the week highlighting the fantastic work taking place across Inverclyde and celebrating the people who help make it happen.
What’s happening during Volunteers’ Week?
Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing volunteer stories, local opportunities and highlights from organisations across Inverclyde on our social media channels.
We’ll also be showcasing the work of our Saltire Champions and sharing some exciting creative projects developed with local partners.
