Volunteers as Local Heroes
Our Saltire Champions are a group of young volunteers helping CVS Inverclyde promote volunteering and the Saltire Awards across their local communities. This spring, they had the exciting opportunity to work with Magic Torch Comics CIC to develop a series of comic strips celebrating the contribution volunteers make across Inverclyde.
Through workshops and discussions, the group explored the different ways volunteers support people and communities, before working together to develop ideas and storyboards that exemplify the work that takes place at the hands of our volunteers.
The finished comics highlight the wide range of roles volunteers take on, portraying the volunteers as heroes to emphasise how valued volunteers are in our communities.
At the centre of this promotion, is the message that everyone can be a volunteering hero! Volunteers are anyone who helps others, gets involved with their community, or tries to make a positive difference. We are surrounded by local heroes all the time, and the more we celebrate and recognise this, the more likely we are to encourage community engagement and civic participation.
This is a great opportunity to engage different audiences with volunteering, and we are particularly excited to introduce these designs to schools across Inverclyde.
If you know a young person who would like to join our Saltire Champions, please reach out at admin@cvsinverclyde.org.uk.
