Meet local Volunteer Huma
Meet Huma Hamidi, a dedicated volunteer at Lyle Kirk and the Culture Café, whose passion for cooking and helping others is at the heart of everything she does.
Originally from Afghanistan, Huma spent 15 years working as a teacher before moving to the UK. Now living in Inverclyde, she has embraced her new community by getting involved in both education and volunteering.
But Huma isn’t just a student and a volunteer, she’s also a loving mother to five children. “My children help me in all aspects of life, which is a great honour for a mother,” she shares with pride. Her journey into volunteering began through her college, where a teacher introduced her to your CVS office. As soon as Huma went to the Culture Café, it was a natural fit.
“I started volunteering because I love and enjoy cooking.” Volunteering has brought joy and connection into Huma’s daily life. “A typical day for me volunteering is happy and filled with excitement. What I enjoy most is that I get to speak to people.”
Huma says that just being part of the community brings her happiness and purpose. “Volunteering for me is a good thing. My message to anyone thinking about getting involved in volunteering is one of encouragement.”
Huma’s warmth, commitment, and community spirit shine through in everything she does. Her story reminds us that volunteering not only strengthens communities - it brings joy, builds confidence, and creates lasting connections.
